5 foods that could reduce your risk of cancer

Here's a list of foods which are known to have cancer fighting properties. Including them in your diet will help reduce your overall risk of cancer.

 

  1. Broccoli: Broccoli contains sulforaphane, a plant compound found in cruciferous vegetables that may have anti-cancer properties. Some studies have also found that a higher intake of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli may be linked to a lower risk of colorectal cancer.

  2. Beans- Beans are high in fibre and may help reduce risk of colorectal cancer! Add a few servings of beans, black beans, navy beans, rajma, channa and more to your diet to amp up the fibre and improve your overall health

  3. Nuts - A study followed about 30,000 people for up to 30years and found that eat a great amount of nuts was associated with a lower risk of certain types of cancers. Walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts etc are great additions to your diet.

  4. Garlic: Garlic has a compound called Allicin which has shown promise in killing off cancer cells in a few test tube studies. A huge study of over 5 lakh participants found that those who ate lots of Allium vegetables, such as garlic and onions had a lower risk of stomach cancer than those who rarely consumed them.

  5. Turmeric has a rich history of being used in Asian medicine. The active component in turmeric- curcumin, is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. Current research into curcumin shows great promise. Curcumin seems to help prevent several types of cancer
